Come on with the 'names'!

I'm trying to understand what a person is thinking when they decide to name their child something so bizarre, that its hard to read, spell, pronounce, imagine.

The following article describes the obstacles that particularly black parents present for their children, by certain names they have burdened them with.

http://www.kltv.com/global/story.asp?s=5435164

What gets me, is whenever I post information like this in other egroups, there are always a few black folks who get mad and simply do not want to believe that something like 'a name' would present any hardship for a black person. Even white folks acknowledge it, how is it that some black folks don't see it?

OK... and for those who want to say, some white folks name their kids crazy names too.... check out this comment from the article posted above.

[[[["White names tend to be things like Molly," Fryer said. "We had 16 million names in California. We only had six black Mollys and not one white Lakisha.]]]]

Get it?

I mean, lets face it. Black folks don't own much to be doing a lot of hiring. And, even some black folks get a little leery of the resume with the name 'Shaniqualondah' on it.

Last week I was listening to The Steve Harvey Show on WBLS and I literally laughed out loud when he named the "Top Ten Worse Names people named their kids... And they KNOW they wrong for it!"

ROFLOL!

Here's a few that I remember he said...

Cavalier
Alize
Henneseymour
Malcamartin (LMAO!)
October

I can'tremember the rest. ROFLOL!

A school teacher friend sent this to me. This is a child's name!
"Le - a"
How would you pronounce this as a child's name???
Leah?? --- NO
Lee - A?? --- NOPE
Lay - a?? --- NO
Lei?? --- Guess Again.

Are you resorting to tongue clicks yet??
Scroll down …

It's pronounced "Ledasha" oh yes...you read it right. The dash is not silent.
This child attends a school in Livingston Parish. ( Louisiana )
Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her name wrong. SO, if you see something come across your desk like this please remember to pronounce the dash.
When the mother was asked about the pronunciation of the name, she said "the dash don't be silent."
